For us too learning more about the history, especially why and how a battle developed and appreciating the actions of the men involved is a big part of the wargaming caper!James Fisherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17897755636246185173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8493556920707083758.post-12486666754406887992014-10-15T12:50:20.659+08:002014-10-15T12:50:20.659+08:00Beautiful looking game, and certainly all wargames...Beautiful looking game, and certainly all wargames don't need to be balanced, just as most actual battles were not. As long as you have players with the right attitude, and every one gets a chance to be the victor or the patsy at times, what better way to get some insight into famous victories than to play them out on the table?Gonsalvohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16531623280789478092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8493556920707083758.post-33599007608581515242014-10-15T06:49:47.424+08:002014-10-15T06:49:47.424+08:00It did work well with Impetus Ian, but I suspect w...It did work well with Impetus Ian, but I suspect would have with other rules too—our turn with 7th edition, whilst heavier going, seemed to indicate that. These games based on 'hopeless' scenarios are actually interesting and enjoyable to play. I first found that when we played out Saalfeld, 1806. We did that one twice, changing sides. We both found it more interesting as the Saxo-Prussian player, trying to do better than history—and than one another! After the first turn of Lake Trasimene, I thought we might be able to do better than the Romans historically, but the Carthaginians won the initiative again in the second turn, Stephen and Mark upped the pressure and we never any... impetus! It was then a case of throwing in units in a desperate attempt to gain some small victories. So, it played out more or less according to the histories, which was pleasing.James Fisherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17897755636246185173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8493556920707083758.post-70694380624856811252014-10-15T02:41:35.064+08:002014-10-15T02:41:35.064+08:00An interesting choice of game - on the face of it ...An interesting choice of game - on the face of it you would think it wouldn't be much fun to play but seems to have worked well with Impetus?Strykerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14258922461691204362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8493556920707083758.post-20980552411537730582014-10-14T21:10:16.644+08:002014-10-14T21:10:16.644+08:00The main game, as linked to the quotes from Polybi...The main game, as linked to the quotes from Polybius and Livy, was done using Impetus.
