Our first bicentennial game for 2014 will be based on the Battle of La Rothière, "the battle in the blizzard", 1st February 1814.
The table is nearly all set save for some river sections to represent the Aube, some trees in the woods at the eastern end, some snow-covered roves and the figures, of course!
I did up the orders of battle using a scale of around 1:33, so we'll have a few figures on the table; nearly 2 000 allied infantry, over 400 cavalry, 28 gun models, with roughly half that number for the French.
View of the table from the western end. Dienville on the River Aube in the foreground, with La Rothière in the centre.
Hopefully we can make it look as good as our Eylau game (he says immodestly!).
The Avon Napoleonic Fellowship (ANF), a small wargames group located in the Avon Valley, about 100 km ENE of Perth Western Australia. The focus of our group, as our name implies, is historical figure-based games in the Napoleonic period, but we do play wargames in other historical periods.

Looks suitably cool. See you tomorrow
ReplyDeleteLookin' forward to it.
DeleteI'll be interested in seeing how you work this one out, with the possibility of stealing, err, "being inspired by" your work for my own nefarious purposes. :-)
ReplyDeleteFinalising it as we speak Peter; nothing like eleventh hour—d@#ned work got in the way! You'll be more than welcome to utilise it—hopefully it will work!!
DeleteIt all looks so peaceful at the moment! Looking forward to this one...
ReplyDeleteSo are we Ian. Nothing like playing in the snow when it is 31ºC outside; this forecast cool change down from 36ºC+ must be nature honouring our game!
DeleteHave a great game Fish - keep Naps and Mark under control!!!
ReplyDeleteFortunately Napier, who took control of those 'treacherous Bavarians", was in true form rolling plenty of 1s, while Mark, who was on the side of the 'good guys', came through with well-timed 6s!!
DeleteIt looks very natural! :-)
ReplyDeleteWaiting to see the bettle
Regards
Rafa
Thanks Rafa, I was saying to the other fellas that we should make all of our games snow battles!!
DeleteGreat minds think alike; I'm painting Bavarians so I can hopefully run this in either April or May. Good luck with your preparations.
ReplyDeleteYou are far better than us Mike! With over 20 000 Bavarians, nearly 1/3 of the allied army we have been improvising with whatever we can find :)
Deleteoh my that's going to be a big game. I hope you take plenty of pictures.
